George Sampson opened Cherokee Distributing Company in 1958, thus beginning his love affair with the beer business and with East Tennessee. Equipped with determination and a risk taker’s heart, George was willing to sweat through the hard times to build one of the most successful malt beverage distribution businesses in the United States.
George believes that East Tennessee is the best place in the world. His life has led him around the globe on interesting travels, but every time his plane lands back home he says, “That was a nice trip, but this is the best place in the world.”
In the late 1960’s George built a little cabin on the shores of Fort Loudon Lake. He named it “A Better Place.” When any of his four children threatened to run away from home he would say, “If you find a better place, let me know.” All four of his kids always came home to East Tennessee.
Cherokee Distributing Company is family owned and operated. Our family is larger than most, born from relationships with our suppliers, our customers and the communities where we live, work and play.
Today Cherokee Distributing Company has grown to deliver great-tasting, high-quality beverages to 22 East Tennessee counties. Our goal is to make the communities we serve a better place for all. One of Cherokee Distributing Company’s core family values is to give back to the communities that provide us with outstanding places to do our business.
The Internet has become our global community, a virtual living room where we can gather with friends sharing topics of common interest, learning and educating about those subjects that make our day-to-day lives a bit livelier.

One Comment on “A better place”
I agree with George . . . no matter where we travel, it’s hard to find a better place. There is just so much to do in Knoxville that goes great with a good malt beverage! Glad you have a new way to keep your fans informed.
