Pilsner Urquell is an authentic Bohemian Pilsner with an earthy aroma and light amber color. This light-bodied brew boasts honey nut flavors, caramelized sweetness and tart citrus. The sweet flavors are counterbalanced with a distinct bitterness for a clean, refreshing finish.
Pilsner Urquell’s origins can be traced to Pilsen, Czech Republic. Josef Groll created the first batch of what would become Pilsner Urquell in 1842, using a strain of yeast smuggled out of a monastery by a monk. This yeast, now known as Pilsner H Yeast, is combined with Bohemian and Moravian barley, as well as Saaz noble hops to create this distinct brew. Pilsner Urquell is the quintessential pilsner created by those who know pilsners best.
Pilsner Urquell pairs well with robust dishes, such as roasted pork or spicy chicken. Steer clear of light, delicate dishes that would be overpowered by Pilsner Urquell’s strong flavors.
